Very friendly, great value car rental and very accomodating. Waiting for us when we arrived at the airport with 3 car seats as requested. Were taken back to the office where the rental car also had 3 seats. Driver was very helpful with local tips and directions . No hesitation in using them again.

Enjoyed 10 days on the Gold Coast with a fantastic car thanks to Family Car Rentals! The car was in beautiful condition, incredibly presented, ran like a dream and was so fuel efficient which is appreciated when you’re driving all over the Gold Coast doing the touristy thing. The price was better than the rest, by far. We had 2 car seats for our sons which were installed perfectly and gave us huge peace of mind, they also have car seats to match your booking fitted on their mini bus from the airport, a touch that shows they take the “family” part very seriously. Speaking of the mini bus - a huge thank you to Rick who picked us up from the airport and was such a friendly bloke who started our holiday with a smile! Will absolutely be using Family Car Rentals every time we head to the GC. Thank you again!

Nice driver who plays good music and he lifts our bags for us, then he started our car and put our luggage in the car for us. And the front desk man was very nice , helpful and went above and beyond to meet our needs . 10/10 again

This company came highly recommended by a friend, and now I’ll be recommending them to everyone I know! Our 2020 Qashqai rental was a seamless experience. It came equipped with two child seats and a pram, which was ready in the boot. Airport pick-up was incredibly smooth and hassle-free. Although the pram provided wasn’t the one we had selected, the issue was promptly resolved. David went above and beyond, driving 40 minutes to Sea World to swap it for the correct pram. To top it off, they refunded the cost of the pram entirely—now that’s exceptional customer service! The instructions for pick-up and drop-off were clear, and the car itself was mechanically sound and a very comfortable drive. I couldn’t recommend them more! Thank you to the team who seem to work harmoniously together, Darryl, Richie, David and Jo.

I am a regular customer of Family Car Rentals and use then each time I visit the Gold Coast. My last visit was Xmas 24/Jan 25 and the vehicle I chose was the Pulsar. The point of Family Car Rentals is to hire older model cars thereby saving money. If that's not your thing they also have later model cars to choose from. As far as I'm concerned it's a win-win. For myself and my wife it's perfect because we understand the vehicle options and we fill in the gaps, such as bringing our own cigarette lighter powered FM Bluetooth Transmitter to connect my Iphone trio the car sound system. I own older cars in Sydney so rely on this device at home. So long as you understand there may be VERY MINOR compromises hiring older cars you'll be very happy to save serious money. The other unbeatable positive is the optional insurance cover. Very inexpensive and very comprehensive making the whole deal excellent value. Make sure you read the website options and descriptions to understand what you're paying for so there's no misunderstanding. And if you have questions just call and clarify. Simple. The cars are well kept and clean so no issues there. Save money and have a trouble free hiring experience. Just try them.

**If I could give more stars, I would!** My girlfriend and I were staying in Burleigh Heads over the long weekend when our original car hire plans fell through at the last minute. We were in a tough spot, with limited options between the airport car hire and other private rental companies. Thankfully, our hotel manager recommended Family Car Rentals. Daryll and his team were amazing! Within 20 minutes, they provided us with several options and a quote. We picked up the perfect car within the hour and were on our way. Daryll and David made the process quick and easy, with minimal paperwork and simple guidelines/procedures info. This was all done at a fair and affordable price. Thanks to these awesome people, we enjoyed exploring the Gold Coast beaches, both north and south of Burleigh. They even gave us a shuttle ride back to the airport after we dropped off the car, which was a huge help and saved us any transport hassles. Thank you Family Car Rentals team! Family Car Rentals is a family business so very appropriate name. And they treat customers with that familiar family feel. I rented a car on my recent Gold Coast Trip as I've done on numerous occasions in past years. The pricing is great because the cars are well kept older models but when taking into consideration the no bullshit comprehensive insurance options I think the value becomes unbeatable. The older cars are advertised as such so there's no misinformation. Just remember that older cars don't have Bluetooth or USB so Personally I bring my own FM Transmitter USB Charger gadget (which I use on my own older model cars at home) which plugs into the cigarette lighter receptical and this transforms the car's radio and sound system into a complete smartphone compatible music and phone system. That's just my personal tip. And cheap doesn't mean crappy service. You won't find any reason not to like this business.

Have used the company 5 times and each time they deliver what they promise plus more including this time taking us to the airport before their own bus was due to leave.We never feel anxious using this company as we have had some very poor experiences in the past with other companies. This company has a fair cost, good insurance, flexibility, and has always given us immediately back our bond payment. No wonder they have won so many awards whilst they also manage to donate to several charities.

To be able to walk out of the airport jump straight in to the vehicle and start your holiday has always been a bonus. There have never been any issues with hidden costs. Car was reliable and packed in 6 adults, 2 children and our luggage nicely (if you have large luggage just be mindful it will be snug ) Great prices for the options you receive with the vehicle (no other rental companies compared when we were shopping around). We have been using Family Car Rentals for many years now, as regular visitors to the Gold Coast from New Zealand. When I found them online, the difference that made them stand out for me, is that they are ‘upfront’ about cost and the different excess payable to cover insurance. There are no hidden agendas. Prior to finding them we would book, then on arrival to pickup the car, there were always extra costs, which were never disclosed on booking. This included well-known car rentals. Family Car Rentals are always there to pick us up and drop us off on time by pleasant staff. Darryl always has the time to have a yarn. The one time we had a problem with a car, they were there within 30 minutes with a replacement vehicle. With another company we waited for over two hours. Had a great experience renting a car for our 1 week holiday. The big rental companies were quoting exorbitant amounts for 2 car seats so we looked elsewhere. Car was clean and functioned well. A few scratches and dings on a 10 year old car... just like our cars at home. Approx half the cost of the big guys. No issues with the shuttle bus which was waiting for us at the airport when we arrived. Would definitely use again.

September 2023, have previously used this company on 4 occasions and have always received great service and support from whether we have picked it up from airport after or there depot, staff have always been forthcoming with any issues and explained all procedures as this time when we filled up car for hire end the petrol tank kept spitting back at us and upon the check is wasn’t completely filled and stated that they would recheck car and only deduct the difference if it is over there margin of error which only worked out to a difference of $5,great all around for shuttle drop off at airport and contract agreement ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Family car rentals supplied us with a great car rental experience. Due to our late arrival into Coolangatta the car was waiting for us at the airport. The Nissan X Trail was like new and just the shot for touring around the Gold Coast area. Upon return to their premises we were then driven to the airport in plenty of time by their courteous staff. A wonderful experience from start to finish. From the pick up from our hotel to pick up the car to the way they were so accommodating when our return flight was cancelled at the last moment and rescheduled 6 hrs later and they very kindly organised for us to keep the car for another 6 hrs so we were able to fill in the day. Price was much cheaper than anywhere else we’ve come across on the Gold Coast and the zero excess package is great and takes away any anxiety when driving around. I cant recommend this great family business highly enough and won’t even think about using any other company. Best Rental Car Company on GC
This was our 4th rental with GCFC HIRE and once again you were great, nothing is ever too hard for the team. With the testing times that caused a delay at our end in the airport was fine, Annie waited patiently for us to get through the checkpoints and within 45 minutes we were at the car as described and off on our holiday. Daryl met us at the airport for a late pickup and took the time for a chat rather than all business. We will be back on the Gold Coast again and wouldn’t even consider another car rental company. Attention! Real PEOPLE! A rareity this day & age. So this place saved my backside last minute walk in booking after being messed around by another rental company. Prices might start a little higher but the insurance cost is VERY AFFORDABLE making the entire booking cheaper, I got a Nissan Quash Qai for $100 less than I would have a Toyota Corolla through a place at the airport after including insurance fees over a 6 Day rental. The Quash Qai included full surround cameras, emergency brake assist, lane assist! All with $0 excess. A++++++++++++

So many times people overlook businesses because they are not a “major” brand. Well folks if you are reading this I must insist you use this company. From first point of contact right through until the end everyone involved was amazing happy, passionate and helpful. I hired a car for a 13 day stay. A modest sized car. We required a car seat also for my son. This is where this company start to really shine. The car seat was at no extra hire cost!. Amazing. You can also hire strollers, body boards ect if you desire. We opted for the full insurance that included everything you’d expect but things the big players in the market do not include. Like free towing, free breakdown service (we used none of those thankfully). Cars are equiped that an E-tag (sorry I’m Sydney and that’s what it’s called here) so if you decide to travel to Brisbane you can. You just pay the cost at the end of the hire. They also included a FREE transfer from Coolangatta airport to the car rental facility at Burleigh Heads. A mini van is used so do not worry about space for luggage. The car was clean and in great mechanical condition. So please don’t worry about the cost. Just because they are cheaper does not even the quality is lost. In fact the quality was of the highest I have ever used for a hire car company. Darryl is a great gentlemen. Something you do not find is business these days. Make sure you check out the website also for holiday tips and tricks. Especially if you are not a regular visitor to the Gold Coast or northern NSW. If you really need a car for that stay, or if you are a local and just need a car contact the team. They are more than willing to help anyone.

Just wanted to acknowledge the fantastic service provided by Gold Coast Family Car Rentals. I rented a vehicle over the Easter long weekend with my pick up and return days being Good Friday and Easter Monday - public holidays when the business was closed. The owner of the business, Daryl, was great. To make things easier all round, he organised for an earlier pickup and a later drop off of the vehicle at no additional cost. This wasn't my first rental from Gold Coast Family Car Rentals and it won't be the last. They have the cheapest rental vehicles on the coast and they are really genuinely friendly and accommodating. So much better than the big rental car companies that I have rented from.

Hired a Kia Carnival people carrier for 10 days from this small family business. Excellent website, which includes very clear description of the various insurance options available. We opted for the zero-excess policy, which provided more-comprehensive coverage than any other rental company I could find on the Gold Coast. All email interactions were very friendly, polite and professional. Shuttle bus was waiting for us at the airport even though our plane arrived 40 minutes early. Car was a 2010 model so had a few scuffs and scratches in the bodywork, but perfectly acceptable given the very reasonable cost, especially considering that zero-excess insurance was included. Plus the car was a pleasure to drive, with no problems at all with it over the 10 days. Dropping the car off and catching the shuttle back to the airport were similarly seamless---do not be put off that this company is some distance from the airport. The only suggestion I would have would be for them to provide a map that clearly shows exactly where you are allowed to drive their vehicles. The permitted area is quite restrictive inland from the coast, but this did not affect us at all since we only travelled around the coastal areas.

I have used family car rentals on a number of occasions over the last ten year but this is my first review. The fact I have hired vehicles from this business on multiple occasions reflects a high level of customer experience and satisfaction. The key benefits include -Prompt shuttle airport pickups (and drop offs) - A quick and easy leasing process from friendly accommodating staff -Vehicles which, while 5-10 years old, are clean and reliable and - most importantly, great value for money!!! The car was well cleaned. Any previous damages was outlined in the paperwork as i had to receive the after hours due to my late flight . They were the cheapest I tell you. Even their insurance was the cheapest quote as I was under 25. Very friendly staff. I had no trouble with the car at all. The staff easily accommodated my late timings to and from airport. I came to them initially because I go to some trouble comparing prices of the competition and they came up best value (and they are, you can check for yourself). What was a nice surprise was just how lovely and helpful the staff are. They're very accommodating and will find a solution which works for you. Have to say it was as easy as 1,2,3. Booking, airport transfer, car collection. Driver was at the airport waiting, Rick was super friendly and very informative. We even took up a couple of his suggestions and were not disappointed at all. Kaye and Annie in the office have great Customer Service and were happy to help with anything. We upgraded a week before to make the kids more comfortable. No change was to big and no hesitation at all. Would absolutely recommend to hire from here

I recently Hired a Toyota Tarago to fit in with a joint Holiday with Friends. I had never used GCFCR previously, even though I found the company for a another friend and he used them. Very easy and affordable
We booked a car for 10 days while on holiday. Pick up from airport was convenient, even though we were delayed, the driver was still waiting for us and was extremely friendly. To my suprise there were two car seats installed for my sons - big thumbs up. We picked our car up and got upgraded as our original car had some mechanical issues. The whole pick up took about 10 minutes. The car seats for my oldest was already installed (a bit old but i know other more expensive companies do the same). The only thing that can be improved is to make sure the seat is properlt installed. The tether was loose and his straps were twisted. Nothing i couldnt fix in two minutes but still. We had also hired a portacot which was already in the boot and it was a good and clean consition. The car during our holiday was good and reliable, cheap on fuel and we were even allowed to go outside of our driving area at no additional cost after informing them. Drop off was again easy, quick check over the car and we were ready to get dropped of to the airport. The driver was friendly, helping us with our luggage. The security deposit was back in my account in three business days which i know can take longer with other companies. I cant say anything bad about my experience and i would definitely hire a car from this company again.

Affordable car rental
After reading a number of reviews online, decided to give them a go due to their cheaper price compared to the usual airport car rentals. They have an online booking but i decided to ring them as i was looking for a specific car (suv with reverse cam) which no other rental car company seems to have. Staff are friendly and accomodating. Upon arrival from the airport, their shuttle was waiting for us to drop us off to their main office. After a quick paper work, they gave us the key and showed a quick run down on how to operate the car. The car was very clean inside and out. There were no old car smell nor dirty stains found inside. The car still looks new (2011 model) even after 100K+ on the clock. They even gave us a free infant car seat. Our shuttle driver also helped us put all our luggage in the car. There were no problems with the car during our time with it. Going back was easy as well. After dropping off the car, paper work was quick. Our bond came back right away. They also dropped us off to the airport by shuttle. The only negative i could think of was the infant car seat was a bit old. But still it was good to have it for free compared to other car rentals which charge you per day. We will definitely come back!

My family and I travelled to the Gold Coast recently and I had the task of booking the hire car, after looking around I found GCFCR and I am glad I did. Sometimes cheap prices means crap service and lots of headaches but not with these guys they were amazing! From the minute we arrived at the airport the shuttle was there ready to takes us to pick up the car, the driver was helpful and friendly. After arriving at GCFCR we were given the car we booked which was very clean and in great condition, we also got the bonus baby seat (which you have to pay for everywhere else) which was free to use. We had no issues with anything and upon return our experience was fantastic the staff went out of there way to help us and were always friendly and professional. I would now only ever book with GCFCR when I travel to the Gold Coast and couldn't recommend them enough. Good Honest Service!

I can't highly enough recommend these guys. We were picked up on time at the airport. The car was clean and well presentable. More important it was cheap to fit in my budget. They even threw in 2 boogey boards for free for the kids. No hassle at all returning the car (make sure you fill up full) and dropped us back at the airport when paperwork was completed. Did I mention they warned us about speed cameras heading into surfers so we don't get booked. Also got my bond back with no problems what so ever. I don't understand the negative reviews. We had a very good experience with this car rental service. The cars are slightly older but in good nick. Communication was good (I gave them the wrong flight number by accident). Very friendly personnel. Affordable pricing for the car and the insurance. I am glad they are around and offers some competition. We received good service for the price we paid. Pick up and drop off at the airport are not instant, but I won't expect that for this price.

We used Gold Coast Family Car Rentals for a recent trip to the Gold Coast. We were picked up from the airport at the scheduled time by a very friendly representative. Upon arriving at the office, the process was quick & efficient. Our car was ready & waiting for us, two gentlemen packed our luggage in for us & we were on our way. We had absolutely no problems with the vehicle. It was modern, well presented & mechanically sound. Returning the vehicle after hours was easy peasy, we parked it in the long term car park as per instructioned & received our bond back within a few days. I searched high & low for reviews before booking & was honestly unsure I'd made the right decision but having experienced GFCR now, I'd happily book again & recommend them to others. If I could make one suggestion, it would be to perhaps take your own car seats along with you if children are included in the booking. Whilst there was nothing wrong with the install of the baby seat, it was in very poor condition which can impact upon safety, the straps were way too high for our child (not easy adjust harnesses) & so therefore I had to re-install the seat myself after adjusting them, which may not be as simple for someone who isn't proficient in car seats. The 2 seats we experienced (in transfer bus & our car) are either expired or very, very near the expiry date. I'd prefer to take my own seats next time but appreciated the convenience that this aspect of their service offered. Don't let the poor reviews scare you off. We were thoroughly satisfied with our experience & honestly couldn't find another company to compete with such a great price for a wonderful car, top insurance & child seat. February 6th 2018 Update: 2nd Review - Update This is my second review on this company & whilst my first review was also positive, I wanted to note some differences in service recieved this time, as opposed to the last time. Upon arrival on a delayed flight at OOL airport, the company had arranged a private collection as their buses were full. The company rep contacted us to let us know of their location, they packed our bags into the car & ensured we were competent at using the child restraints for our kiddo's. The ride to the office was pleasant. The driver was informative & offered lots of helpful suggestions pertaining to our stay on the GC. Once we arrived at the office, our hire car was ready & waiting, two more pleasant staff members transferred our bags for us & started the hire car/aircon so it was cooled. The hire car was in excellent condition & the requested child restraints had been fitted with diligence. The only negative comment I had made in my previous review was that the supplied child restraints were outdated, however the company seem to have overridden this issue & I was happy with the age/condition of the supplied seats this time. The process was quick, the staff were friendly and the car ran smoothly. One of our favourite perks of using this company are that we're able to leave the car at the airport upon drop off, when flying out of office hours. It's totally hassle free, super convenient & we always have our bond back within a timely manner. Thank you GCFCR for another wonderful experience! Keep up the great work!

I recently used them 2 October to 6 October 2015 long weekend. I was a little worried due to the bad reviews but we had no problems. We did as asked on the paper work. we Called when we landed, they were there in 20 minutes, they drove us to their depot which was about 20 mintues away , we got our car straight away and when we were on the way to return the car 4 days later, we called to confirm as they have a courtesy bus but it needs to be booked so we confirmed our time of arrival and everything was sweet.
The only minor thing was we had 3 child seats and as not all car belts fit the extender belts, one car seat that was in the middle needed to be moved so the child seats could sit properly and access the seat belt, but the guy was friendly and changed them around when he saw us struggling . We had no issues at all :)

I'm so glad I found these guys through google! We paid $324 for 8 days car hire inc 3 booster seats, pram and insurance! By far, it was much cheaper than other car rental places once all the added necessities were added. We drove a 2005 Ford Falcon and it was beautiful to drive and well looked after, it was exactly what we needed. In regards to Darryl, he drove us to the airport and he was lovely. He missed his lunch break to drive us, but he was still lovely to chat too and good with our family. In the bus they had booster seats and baby seats ready to transfer whole families, everything was just so smooth and easy and most important very cost effective, especially with a young family. If you're considering trying Family Car Rentals, do it, you won't be disappointed!

Just came back from holiday on the GC.... called GCFCR 2 days before we needed the car, very last minute, but Daryl was great and was able to arrange a car for us. Picked us up from the airport, and all went very smoothly. For a small car cost was $250 for 6 days ($41 a day), plus a refundable security bond of $150. Very happy with the car, nice people. Would definitely use them again.

Having used the services of GGFCR now, 5 times in 3 years, and experiencing nothing but superb service, great, reliable vehicles and very attractive rates, I wonder at these reviews that are so derogatory. The owners have always made us feel welcome, (more like a friend than a paying customer), and we've never once considered looking elsewhere. Several times when bookings were a little confused, we've recieved free upgrades - and always, always, excellent service. Some people are just never happy!

Having been a customer since Oct 2010, I can sincerely say that my experience has been a really good one. After all, if I had not been satisfied with their service and their cars, why would I have been a customer for so long? On occasion, we have had a couple of mishaps (speeding fines, unpaid tolls and even a shunt up the backside) and found nothing but courtesy from the staff when being informed of these mishaps. As for the shunt up the back side, the company was quick to offer a replacement vehicle so we go on our merry way unhindered. All in all, we have had a very pleasant experience when dealing with Gold Coast Family Car Rentals and have always recommended them to our family and friends.

Family car rentals supplied us with a great car rental experience. Due to our late arrival into Coolangatta the car was waiting for us at the airport. The Nissan X Trail was like new and just the shot for touring around the Gold Coast area. Upon return to their premises we were then driven to the airport in plenty of time by their courteous staff. True blue old school service and all at a reasonable price. We will be using Family Car Rentals again.
