An annual full body scan for skin cancer is a good idea. Dr. Hsiao is personable and efficient. After many sunburns in my life, it's reassuring to know all is okay.
Have been a patient of Dr. Hsiao for years. He is professional, thorough and kind! His aid, Jackie, is a lovely person who has the magic touch with Dr. Hsiao’s patients. She is patient, empathetic and helpful. We love this practice and highly recommend it.

I really like Dr Cavender and her staff. The nurse was friendly and the office staff was very pleasant. I’ve had a sebaceous cyst on my cheek in a very visible spot for some time and it’s kept enlarging and looking worse. I’ve seen two very reputable plastic surgeons in Pasadena and both said don’t touch it. It’s unsightly. I asked Dr Cavender if there was anything else to be done other than remove it. She used a cortisone injection to shrink it and it really is working. Thank you Dr Cavender! 😊

Danielle Davros is very professional and no nonsense. I have been going to her twice a year for the past three years. She knows all about older people with sun damaged skin. I went to see her yesterday because of a keratosis that I feared was something much worse. She reassured me it was a benign lesion and blasted me with liquid nitrogen the way she always does. I love both SF locations (3838 and 909). The staff are competent and lovely. They know what they are doing and everyone should get a month long paid vacation of their choice (half kidding)! Anyway, CSI is my go to derm office. They make it easy to be seen. Clean facilities, kind providers, front desk staff and nurses are also fabulous.
Dr. Hsiao is attentive and listens to all of my concerns. Even when obviously very busy everyone in the office stops and gives me their full attention. Definitely 5 stars

I had been using light therapy and creams to help me for over 15 years but it was not working and I was concerned with so much light therapy. Today was my first visit to the California Skin Institute, and the dermatologist I saw was Dr. Patricia Cavender who was terrific. Having recently moved to the area from Virginia, I needed to find all new Doctors which can be quite overwhelming. As there is a family history of skin cancer and having had a squamous cell carcinoma myself, it was important to me to not only find an excellent dermatologist, but one who also took my insurance. I stroke gold when I found Dr. Cavender. She did an extremely thorough exam and noted that several spots on my face that I had for years were actually precancerous and needed to be sprayed with liquid nitrogen. She told me I'd be "scabby" for a week and made sure I'd be ok with that before spraying. I appreciated she asked me first and of course I said yes. Dr. Cavender is very warm and friendly and reasured me regarding a concern i had about a spot on my leg. Her assistant Marina was also excellent. The woman who checked us in at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. I really felt I was in excellent hands with Dr. Cavender and her team and thrilled to have selected her and the California Skin Institute for my dermalogical needs. I highly recommend Dr. Cavender and the practice.

2024 update: everything I said below, plus Dr C’s new office is beautiful, spacious, and clean. Doc is still great. She always takes a moment to check in, which I appreciate. This visit, she opted to take a sample and test it but is so reassuring and thorough, I am not worried about it. She’s also quite gentle with the little scraping procedure, which I’ve not had before. Continue to highly recommend Dr. Cavender and her entire team! ********* First, I'm a huge fan of Dr Cavender's staff. This was my first visit. Although it's counterintuitive, I feel like many doctors offices employ people who are not customer service oriented. Not so with these guys! They are professional and sweet. The offices are really clean and nicely appointed. I was lucky to find street parking but otherwise I'm not sure how parking goes. As far as Dr Cavender is concerned, she is fantastic. Super thorough, very reassuring, and action-oriented which I appreciate. No question she's my new dermatologist!

Dr. Cavender is beyond comparison. Her schedule was fully booked, and we had no appointment with her that day. My sister WwsoMys has rashes that spreading more in past 2 days. The receptionist initially told us they couldn’t accept more patient that day. Even the receptionist initially asked us to visit urgent care instead. But since we really need to be seen that day, and probably because we are existing patient, she accepted us after Dr. Cavender luckily walked by and told her she could briefly examined the patient. Dr. Cavender examined my sister’s skin thoroughly, she even touched it to feel the bumps. She discussed and explained every possibility that caused it and the treatments for it. She was very patient with us and she wasn’t rushing us at all even though her schedule was full. She gave us prescriptions and written notes on how to take care her skin. And she wants a follow up after. She went to the receptionist and looked at her schedule oh wow it’s all full! But she told the receptionist, she still want to follow up on her and squeeze her time in between her very tight schedules. What a dedication to patients. She shows us how she really care about her patients and not like other doctor who only cares about selling her products.

Check In was easy. My experience was with Annie the aesthetician. She is professional, friendly and is very thorough. You will leave with your face feeling clean and refreshed. The only drawback of it all is she is only in office two days per week. That makes it really hard for those of us who work and have kids to tend to. Hopefully she can add more days to the schedule.

Great dermatologist! Dr. Cavender is incredibly professional and knowledgeable. She’s definitely going to be my go-to dermatologist from now on. She’s very patient with me and goes through each of my concerns one by one. Which is one of the most important things I look for in a good Doctor. The front receptionist was also really nice and friendly as well. I would definitely consider coming here in the near future to get facials and other skincare treatments.
