I want to thank Dr. Shaver and her staff for an extraordinary experience. If it wasn't for doctors like Dr. Shaver I would still be thinking about my hair loss and how to fix it, which I have done for the past 25 years. I can tell you it's not a pleasant experience to look in the mirror day after day and watch your hair disappear. Over the years I tried numerous products and so-called fixes for hair loss with no success. Most of the products and solutions they advertise are completely useless with the exception of oral dutasteride, oral minoxidil and in my opinion, the FUE (follicular unit extraction) hair transplant method. I actually fell asleep during the process a couple times while the Aretis system was harvesting my hair. Healing time was very quick and easy and I was back up doing my normal routine in days with very minor restrictions. So, if you're sitting around and worrying about your hair loss and have scoured the internet trying to find answers like I was just stop procrastinating and set up a consultation with Dr. Shaver. Fantastic, caring, wonderful group. I would have been bald 3 decades ago, but for Dr. Bernstein’s office. They recently switched me from foam Rogaine to a pill form, once a day. I had heard about possible “shedding“. For anyone who is worried about that, while I am not a doctor, don’t believe it. Some of my colleagues have bought their hair medication online. If you actually care about keeping your hair, it’s worth the few bucks to go to this office because they know what they’re doing. I very highly recommend Bernstein medical.

More than three decades ago, Dr Bernstein saved me from a previous failed hair transplant due to the original surgeon's lack of experience. ( The failed hairline looked like rows of planted corn! ) Dr. Bernstein removed the " corn fields " and expertly reimplanted individual hairs and much smaller groups of hair to give me a natural-looking hairline! ( I have been grateful ever since! ) I recently needed to get a new prescription for Finasteride and feared Dr. Bernstein would have forgotten me after three-plus decades. ( His office personnel stated they no longer had records of me. ) However, Dr. Bernstein did remember me, and after a pleasant call with him, I now have a new prescription for my Finasteride. You can't find a more skilled doctor than Dr. Bernstein! Bottom line: his skill is worth every cent of your hard-earned money!

The hair loss did stop but I did not get regrowth. In the past two years I have taken oral minoxidil and I recently visited Dr B and he was able to show me that I have now some regrowth on the top of the scalp. This is a very satisfactory (as well as cost effective) result. So I am very happy and will continue with this treatment. Dr Bernstein is always a pleasure to encounter. Last time he even took some time to explain to me why I should take prednisone in the early morning for an autoimmune disease I have. Quite an education!

I consulted Dr. Shaver for an eyebrow transplant. She was warm, knowledgable and confident discussing the procedure and she answered my questions thoroughly, including after the consultation. I had a FUT done and just had the staples removed from the wound. The transplant went well and the staff was very professional.. I slept throughout most of the process. There was no pain and I did not need to take any medication at all. Swelling happened for a few days and went away. The only inconvenience was sleeping during the first week as you cannot sleep on the wound. I was able to go to the gym and do 90% of my rountine. By the third week, almost everything is back to normal.

TLDR: They're regarded as one of the best in New York, and I've seen first hand why. As a patient who began seeing Dr. Shaver 1 year ago for MPHL, I instantly knew this was who I wanted to work with. At the time Dr. Shaver was honest, and transparent about all of my options. At this point in time I've now completed an FUE transplant, which is a 2 day process, so I spent some time with not only Dr. Shaver but her entire staff. I am in disbelief at how amazing the experience was. Fair warning, I was heavily sedated so my memories are a little incomplete, but everything I do remember was a testament to why they're held so highly regarded in New York. Every person I interacted with was warm, personable, and caring. I understand that it's common for doctors to be multitasking, but I felt like Dr. Shaver was constantly there, or making sure I was comfortable, and tended to. While I'm still awaiting the final results of the procedure, I have a high level of confidence things will be perfect.

After speaking with a plastic surgeon and trying both Propecia and Rogaine, I started looking into hair transplant surgery. After doing some research, I scheduled a consultation with Dr. Bernstein. His office was really beautiful and the staff were all understanding and discrete, which was great because I didn’t want to make a big thing out of this. In the consultation, Dr. Bernstein asked me about my hair loss, about when it started, the meds I took to combat it, what I could expect from hair transplantation, the difference between FUT and FUE, how many hairs I would need, how the transplanted area would age, and a million other things. I know this is a bit ridiculous to say, but he really impressed me. I understand that some people are looking for someone to take care of them as they ask these, admittedly delicate, questions, but I was just looking for an expert surgeon who could answer all my questions, who wouldn’t try to sell me on anything, and who wasn’t biased toward either FUT or FUE. Bernstein fit the bill. After another consultation and a few months of deliberation, I was in the operating room, ready to get an FUT procedure. Bernstein and his team were very nice and told me what I could expect. There was a huge T.V. in the operating room and they asked me if there was anything I’d like to watch – I actually don’t even remember what I was watching now – but I told them and before long, I was walking back out of the office (it turns out I was in there for around 6 hours). It has only been 10 days so I can’t really report on the quality or the hair growth or how it looks, but I can say that Bernstein and his staff were excellent. It was a very easy operation and the recovery has not been that bad (though I did experience some significant swelling). Looking forward to seeing the results!
